DA announces staffing changes

SALEM — The longtime spokesman for the Essex County district attorney's office is moving into a new position as director of social media, and a veteran prosecutor moves into the appeals unit, District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett announced this week.

Steve O'Connell, a former journalist who has served as the spokesman for both Blodgett and his predecessor, Kevin Burke, will also continue to handle the job of assigning prosecutors to the county's eight district courts each day.

Carrie Kimball Monahan takes over as director of communications. Monahan had regularly filled in for O'Connell during vacations.

Meanwhile, Assistant District Attorney Marcia Slingerland, who has been a courtroom prosecutor for a number of years, will return to the district attorney's appeals unit, which handles cases that are before the Supreme Judicial Court, Appeals Court and other appellate courts.
