Gables board names interim director

SALEM — The House of the Seven Gables has named an interim executive director.

Kara McLaughlin will serve in that role while the board of the historic site searches for a replacement for former Executive Director Anita Blackaby, who stepped down in December after five years.

“The board was very pleased that Kara was available to join The Gables ...” board President Andy Meyers said in a statement. “Her strong ties to both The Gables and the Salem community, coupled with her understanding of our dual mission to run the museum to benefit underserved children of immigrant families, will help ensure a smooth transition ...”

McLaughlin is the former president and CEO of The Survey Group, a regional compensation consulting firm, and spent the past four years teaching math in the Salem and Danvers public schools. She has an MBA from Northeastern University and a master’s degree in education from Lesley University.

She lives in Salem with her husband, state Rep. John Keenan, and their two children.
