WENHAM — Wenham Center, normally placid even on a weekend, will be plenty lively Saturday.
The Wenham Museum's 37th annual Market Day is once again taking over the town center. The event usually draws a crowd, in part because historically it has enjoyed seasonally pleasant weather.
The end-of-summer arts and crafts fair has grown steadily since its inception in the early '70s, and this year features more than 50 local artisans and crafters.
They range from fine artists such as Alyssa Watters to Phil and Debbie Prieur of Macro Beads of Hope. Among the offerings will be children's clothing, fine arts, doll furniture, handcrafted cards, totes and handbags, pottery, candles, jewelry, woven baskets, gourmet foods and much more.
The fair used to be held in late August, but when another local fair also claimed the day, the museum changed its date to the second Saturday in September.
Back again this year after its debut last September is a farmers market, featuring produce from Green Meadows Farm in Hamilton.
The museum's executive director, Lindsay Diehl, promises, "There are more crafters than ever," and admission to the museum will be free the day of the fair.
Children's activities will include sand art and face-painting, and there will be demonstrations by local artists and crafters.
It's also just about your last chance to view the museum's exhibit "Colorful Characters: Storytelling Through Comics," which closes Sunday.
The museum's snack bar will also be open for those who work up an appetite shopping.
