Man stopped in search faces drug charge

ESSEX — A 20-year-old Beverly man was stopped by Essex police because his vehicle reportedly fit the description of another crime.

Now, he faces unrelated local charges involving drug and alcohol possession.

Police said they stopped Calvin Cook, 20, of 52 Amherst Road, Beverly, thinking his vehicle matched one reportedly being driven by a couple from Plaistow, N.H., who were believed to have been in the area and are wanted on high-profile child abuse allegations.

According to police, Cook was driving erratically around 12:17 a.m. Sunday. When he did stop on Pawn Street, officers arrested him on charges of possession of a Class B drug, being a minor in possession of alcohol and driving with an open container.
