Teacher from Swampscott charged with giving student pot

LYNN (AP) — A Lynn teacher has been arrested for allegedly giving marijuana to a student in school.

Police say 50-year-old Charles Saltzman of Swampscott, an English teacher at Lynn English High School, was charged with distribution of marijuana in a school zone when he was arrested Tuesday.

Saltzman appeared in court without a lawyer yesterday and was released on the condition that he not get into any further legal trouble.

He was ordered to return to court, with a lawyer, on Dec. 12.

He refused to speak to reporters after the court appearance.

Superintendent Catherine Latham said Saltzman was placed on paid administrative leave pending the results of the ongoing criminal investigation.
