Suspect is arrested in mugging

PEABODY — Police arrested a Danvers man yesterday after he allegedly robbed a woman while she was walking down Endicott Street just after midnight.

Gregory Hardin, 50, of 18 MacArthur Blvd. was charged with unarmed robbery.

Around 12:30 a.m., a 22-year-old woman contacted police to report that a man had accosted her near 13 Endicott St. and stolen her purse, Detective Michael Crane said in a press release.

The woman reportedly fell to the ground during the struggle, though no injuries were reported.

With the help of a state police dog, officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect, who was described in the police log as a dark-skinned man, about 6 feet tall and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.

According to the log, a taxi driver told police that he had seen a man matching that description in the vicinity of the Courthouse Pub at 43 Central St. — the same location where Hardin was taken into custody around 10:30 a.m., after he was identified as a suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Police did not elaborate on any connection between Hardin and the Courthouse Pub.
