Robber hits Salem video game store

SALEM — For the second consecutive weekend, a knife-wielding bandit has robbed a Salem business.

A man cleaned out the cash register at Game Zone on Essex Street on Saturday just before 8 p.m.

Police aren’t saying if it’s the same man who used a knife to rob Georgia’s Pizza on Norman Street last Sunday, but they acknowledge that there are strong similarities.

In both cases, the robber wore a mask.

Saturday’s bandit was described as a white man between 5 foot 10 inches and 6 feet, weighing between 170 and 175 pounds. He wore a black ski mask and sunglasses, a dark coat, a gray hooded sweatshirt, and dark jeans.

A store video revealed a dark figure.

Police say he used a knife to threaten the clerk, who then opened the cash register. Once it was open, “he just grabbed the money.”

Detective Brian St. Pierre is investigating both robberies. Also responding Saturday were Patrolmen Gilbert Priddy, Daniel Tucker, Derek Sears, John Anderson and Dennis Luti.
