Salem holiday shoppers enjoy free parking

By Bethany Bray

---- — SALEM — Holiday shoppers can park for free at downtown parking meters on Saturdays through Christmas.

The initiative, which allows people to park for up to four hours, free of charge, at downtown meters, is new this year and meant to “encourage more shoppers to spend their holiday dollars locally in Salem,” according to a press release from Mayor Kim Driscoll.

Parking will be free, for up to four hours, at any metered parking space downtown on Saturdays through Dec. 25. This includes both on-street metered spaces and metered spaces in parking lots.

“Salem has many wonderful, locally owned stores and restaurants,” Driscoll said in the press release.

“Our small businesses provide so much support to the community, and it’s important to support them, especially during the holidays.”
