---- — MIDDLETON — After an extensive search Friday morning, authorities found a 76-year-old man with dementia who went missing from a Phaneuf Street residence.
The unidentified man had walked away from his home at some point between midnight and 6:50 a.m., according to a press release from the Police Department.
The ensuing search used resources from the Police Department, the Fire Department, the state police and the Essex County Sheriff’s Department, including multiple K-9 units.
Middleton residents were informed about the situation via automated phone alerts through the School Department. Police departments in neighboring communities were alerted, as well.
After an initial search was complete, all available officers began a door-to-door neighborhood canvass, and the man was found in the rear seat of a vehicle parked close to his residence, police said.
He was brought to Salem Hospital for evaluation after authorities determined that he might have been suffering from hypothermia.
