Police found marijuana in a kid’s backpack after responding to a report of a suspicious package at the Access Star program on Mason Street.
Police placed Margarita Velasquez in custody on a shoplifting charge after the owner of the Lotus Gift Store in the East India Mall identified her as the person who stole a $20 gray hooded sweatshirt from a clothing rack in front of the store just before noon. Police found Velasquez in the mall wearing the sweatshirt.
Francis Linskey of 195 Essex St., Apt. 1A, Salem, was issued a citation after a three-car accident on Highland Avenue around 4:25 p.m. Police said Linskey will receive a summons for charges of driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident, property damage and using a vehicle without authority.
A car crashed into a tree on Highland Avenue around 6 p.m. When police arrived, the driver was out of the vehicle and bleeding from the nose and lip. Kevin Bovell, 35, of 30 Ontario St., Lynn, told police that another vehicle cut him off, causing him to swerve off the road. Bovell was taken by ambulance to Salem Hospital. When police checked Bovell’s license, they discovered he had a suspended license, as well as a default warrant. Police arrested Bovell at Salem Hospital and charged him with driving after a license suspension and a marked lanes violation.
A Daniels Street resident told police that someone had been leaving “food products” on her car windshield for the last few weeks.
Police responded to a report of a “loud male” on Pope Street. A couple told police that they were arguing over dinner.
Ann Baccari, 61, of 95 Jackson St., Salem, was arrested at 10:58 p.m. and charged with domestic assault and battery.
Bernabe Perez, 24, of 110 New Park St., Lynn, was arrested at 12:42 a.m. after a traffic stop on Bridge Street and charged with driving without a license.
