BEVERLY — A Malden man will be arraigned today at Salem District Court, after police said he broke into the oncology department at Beverly Hospital.
Police were called to Beverly Hospital at 7 p.m. after security reported the break-in to police. Security staff told police the suspect had left the Herrick Street facility.
Patrolman Antonio Diruzza found the man, later identified as David M. Discipio, 31, on Sohier Road, police Lt. Timothy Hegarty said.
Discipio had been a patient of the hospital's emergency room, but police would not disclose what he was being treated for. The emergency department is near the oncology department, police said.
Hegarty said a housekeeping employee found Discipio and confronted him. She later told security staff that cabinets and drawers were rifled through and there were items thrown on the ground.
Hegarty said Discipio admitted to being in the oncology department, but he said he was trying to use the phone.
Police charged Discipio with trespassing and breaking and entering in the daytime to commit a felony.
Discipio was held overnight on $1,000 bail.
Patrolmen Harold Geary and Ken Rollins assisted in the investigation.
