DANVERS — The new, $133 million Essex Technical High will hold an open house next week as the school gears up to welcome its first crop of students next fall.
The new regional technical and agricultural school merges Essex Agricultural and Technical High, North Shore Technical High in Middleton and Peabody’s high school vocational programs into one massive school being built on the campus of Essex Aggie in the Hathorne section of town.
The open house will take place on the campus of the new school at 562 Maple St. (Route 62) on Saturday, Oct. 19, 9 a.m. to noon.
The event is for parents and middle school students who are interested in attending Essex Tech, learning more about its 24 career areas, and the college preparatory academic and technical education it will offer. All departments, both career/technical and academic, will be represented, and coaches for sports and advisers for extracurricular activities will also be on hand.
The open house will also give parents and students a chance to see portions of some completed facilities, with tours of the new school to be scheduled in the spring.
When open, the school will have 1,400 students in four academies with programs focused on both college and career. The four academies are construction technology, animal and plant science, technology and services, and life and natural sciences.
In addition to programs offered in the past, the school will add four new programs, biotechnology, plumbing, HVAC and refrigeration, and dental assisting. Essex Tech will serve 17 North Shore cities and towns, with its agricultural component open to students beyond the 17 sending districts.
