---- — SALEM — Police say they arrested a man on heroin distribution charges yesterday afternoon following a monthlong investigation into whether drugs were being dealt on Boston Street.

Juan B. Abreu, 42, of 79 Boston St., Salem, was arrested on charges of two counts of distribution of a class A substance.

The investigation into Abreu began after police received complaints of suspicious activity in the Boston Street area, according to a department press release.

“The investigation developed using both surveillances and an undercover detective ... culminating today with Abreu’s arrest after an undercover sale,” wrote police.

The arrest was actually made near Walgreens on Pope Street about 6 p.m. and was “made without incident or injury,” police wrote.

Detectives seized Abreu’s motor vehicle and two cellphones and plan to apply for a warrant to search the vehicle.

Detective Brian St. Pierre led the investigation under the direction of Capt. Thomas Griffin and Detective Lt. Stephen Bona. Also assisting were detectives Eric Connolly, Charlene Sano and Daniel Tucker, and Sgt. David Tucker and officer Dennis Luti.
