Dog fence bites man

HAMILTON — Emergency personnel responding to a report of a "party struck by lightning" at Gangi Plumbing, Heating and Gas on Forest Street came upon a man Fire Capt. Dan Ellison said had been "extremely lucky."

Ellison said the man, whom he didn't identify, had his hand on the door knob of the house when he got the jolt from the bolt.

The yard is surrounded by an electric pet fence, a wire buried underground that is part of a dog-restraint system. Ellison said it's not uncommon for the fences to attract lightning strikes, and the victim just happened to have his hand on the knob "when all hell broke loose."

Ellison said the man refused treatment at the scene.
