---- — BEVERLY — Police arrested two men who, they say, attempted to swallow drugs to hide them during a traffic stop Friday evening.

Officer Tom Nolan attempted to pull over a Nissan Altima with dark tinted windows for a windows violation as it turned from Ropes Street onto Simon Street around 8:15 p.m. But the vehicle didn’t initially stop, according to a press release.

Nolan ordered the driver, Leonardo A. Reyes, 24, 6 Beaver St., Salem, and passenger Rudy A. Reyes, 20, 292 Washington St. out of the car after it eventually came to a stop on Herrick Street.

“Officer Nolan suspected both men were attempting to secrete drugs by swallowing them,” the release said. “Once out of the vehicle Officer Nolan was able to recover 2 small twists of cocaine from Rudy Reyes.”

A further search of the vehicle recovered 11 more “corner twists” of what was believed to be cocaine, police said.

Officers seized $2,330 in cash and approximately $950 worth of cocaine during the stop.

Both men were charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, drug violation within 500 feet of a school and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

Leonardo Reyes was additionally charged with a window-tint violation.
