Police: Man in mask breaks into hospital

PEABODY — Police say a former employee of Kindred Hospital on King Street was arrested yesterday morning after he was caught there rummaging through a supply room in a ski mask.

Stefan James Kenehan-Letizia, 27, of 10 Myrtle St., Apt. 3, Beverly, was arrested on charges of breaking and entering in the nighttime for a felony and receiving stolen property over $250.

The incident began around 3:30 a.m., when a nurse spotted a Volvo parked near a loading dock with its driver-side door ajar, said Lt. Arthur Yeo. She contacted a security guard, who found a nearby supply room door open and then spotted a masked figure inside, going through supplies.

The guard briefly lost sight of the man, who was also wearing khaki shorts and a dark shirt. Then, he found the suspect again. Upon seeing the guard, the suspect fled out the same door he’d entered through and ran away from hospital, but the guard caught up to him and brought him back — still wearing the mask, Yeo said.

An officer found a set of keys during a pat-down of Kenehan-Letiza; one of the keys was to the Volvo by the dock, and another was to the supply room, Yeo said.

Kenehan-Letizia reportedly told police then that he was a former employee of the hospital. It was unclear what position he occupied.

Police found syringes, gauze, bacitracin and other supplies in the area where Kenehan-Letizia had run during the short pursuit, Yeo said.
