SALEM — Police say two people were arrested on warrants Wednesday afternoon when officers found them hiding in an apartment where a domestic dispute had been reported.
Edwin Colon Jr., 34, of 117 Loring Ave., Salem, was arrested on two warrants: one out of Salem with a charge of violating an abuse prevention order and another out of Salem with charges of assault, threats to commit a crime and intimidation of a witness, Lt. Mary Butler said.
Rita Ann Hogan, 48, of 13 School St., Peabody, was arrested on three warrants: one out of Lynn with a charge of failure to return leased property and two out of Peabody, one with a charge of shoplifting, second offense, and the other with charges of uttering a false document and forgery, Butler said.
After being dispatched to 117 Loring Ave. at 5:49 p.m., officers spoke to a woman who confirmed she’d been involved in a domestic dispute with her boyfriend — Colon Jr. — but said that he’d already left the scene and the altercation hadn’t become physical, according to the incident log.
The woman allowed officers to search her apartment to “make sure” Colon Jr. wasn’t there, at which point they located Hogan “hiding underneath a bed in one of the bedrooms,” according to the log.
“She stated that she was hiding from her boyfriend and she did not want him to know that she was there,” wrote police.
Continuing their search of the apartment, police then discovered Colon hiding in a closet in another bedroom; he told police he was hiding “because he knew he had a warrant,” police wrote.
Police arrested the two without incident and transported them to the station.
Regarding the original reason for the call, police wrote in the log that “no physical abuse was observed nor reported.”
