---- — SALEM — April is Autism Awareness Month, and Parents United of Salem has planned two events this week to raise awareness.
Tomorrow, local families will walk a loop around Salem Common at 6:30 p.m. to mark World Autism Awareness Day. Walkers will wear blue, be given blue glow sticks and carry other blue lights. One of numerous “Light it up Blue” events happening around the world that day, it is the second annual walk in Salem.
On Saturday, Parents United will host an Autism Awareness Fair from 4 to 6 p.m., also on Salem Common. Families can connect with local support and service providers, ask questions, and get information. There will be “sensory-friendly” crafts and activities for children, say organizers. There is no charge for the event. In the event of inclement weather, the fair will be held at the Salem YMCA, 1 Sewall St.
