Teen taken to hospital after rollover in Beverly

Beverly emergency officials and state police responded to a rollover on Route 128 southbound near exit 18 late yesterday afternoon. Beverly Fire Department officials feared they would have to apply the Jaws of Life to extricate driver Matthew Laporte, but the 18-year-old was freed with relative ease. Police expressed astonishment that he wasn’t more seriously hurt. He was taken to Beverly Hospital, but police said his injuries were not life-threatening. Laporte told police that the accident happened when he was cut off in traffic and overreacted. He damaged a third car before turning over but its two occupants suffered no injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
