Stolen angels returned to child's grave

PEABODY — Annmarie Schieding wasn’t expecting to see any of the angels and other figurines again that were stolen from her daughter’s grave last week, so she was overjoyed to find a brown paper bag left at Stephanie’s headstone with many of the missing items inside on Friday.

Schieding drove to Oak Grove Cemetery Friday morning after finishing her overnight shift at work. She was going to place a new angel at Stephanie’s grave that a coworker gave her, but as she pulled up to the site, she spotted a brown paper bag wrapped and tied with twine. At first, she thought it was trash, but then realized there was something inside.

“I could see a white wing peeking out of the wet paper bag. As I opened the bag I saw that the angels inside were the ones stolen from Stephanie,” Schieding said.

A figurine of a mermaid riding a dolphin and a few teddy bears that were also taken were in the bag, as well.

“I am once again speechless, standing in the cemetery crying,” she said. “Not everything was returned to my daughter’s grave, but I am very happy that some are back.”
