SALEM — Beer legend Jim Koch, the creator of Sam Adams beer, will discuss the business of brewing this fall at Salem State College.
Koch will appear on Tuesday, Nov. 9, as part of the Agganis Forum series. He will speak at 6 p.m. in the recital hall on the Central Campus. Admission is free, but seating is limited.
A descendant of German brewers, Koch started in 1984 by making small batches of a family recipe for "Louis Koch Lager" in his kitchen. He renamed the beer "Samuel Adams Boston Lager," and it soon soared to fame after being selected best beer in America at The Great American Beer Festival.
The success of the Boston Beer Company, which now makes 21 brews, helped spark a domestic beer revival in the United States.
Koch holds undergraduate, law and business degrees from Harvard University.
The Agganis Forum is made possible by a gift from Madeline Agganis (Class of 1979 at Salem State) and Michael Agganis (1966) to benefit the Bertolon School of Business at Salem State.
For reservations, call 978-542-7212 or contact jgillis@salemstate.edu. Anyone attending must be 21 or older, the college said.
