Four people were transported to Beverly Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after the driver of the car veered off Asbury Street trying to avoid a deer and struck a tree at 1:45 a.m. Saturday.
A report of a trapped skunk calls for one brave officer. A woman at 36 Ord St. called police at 3:10 p.m. about a skunk that got itself stuck in a trash can. With a little bit of effort (and courage), the officer was able to tip the can over and release the skunk without being injured or sprayed.
Christine Baze, 44, 80 Wharf St., Salem, was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of an accident and drunken driving, according to an 11:23 p.m. report. After being called to a Sewall Street parking lot for a past hit-and-run, police tracked Baze down at her house and arrested her. “There was fresh paint exchange on the right front bumper of Baze’s car,” police wrote. According to the report, she told police she had two drinks at dinner but failed all three field sobriety tests.
A man delivering newspapers lost control of his car while throwing them outside the passenger-side window and hit a parked car near 25 Walter St., according to a 4:43 a.m. report.
Gerald R. Novack, 46, of Everett, was arrested after a traffic stop at Norman Street and Holyoke Square on charges of operating with a suspended license (third offense), defective equipment and operating without an inspection sticker, according to a 9:04 a.m. report.
Justin P. Cunningham, 30, 3 Gardner St., Salem, was arrested on charges of operating an unregistered motor vehicle and subsequent offense of operating with a suspended license, according to a 5:05 p.m. report.
Cameron L. Gauthier, 20, 276 Rantoul St., Beverly, was arrested on charges of assault and battery, violating city knife ordinance, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. When police arrived to the Salem Common on a report of “parties arguing” at 12:12 a.m., they observed a man bleeding heavily from a facial wound. Gauthier took off on a skateboard, but he was arrested after a short pursuit, according to police.
A caller reported to police at 10:10 p.m. that her apartment at 77 Essex St. was broken into and an Xbox and “several narcotics” were stolen. The woman told police she believes she knows who did it.
The MBTA reported to police at 12:05 a.m. that a drunken person jumped off a train as it was pulling out of the station. No other information was provided in the report.
