Police search for suspect in theft at rest stop

BEVERLY — State police are searching for a man who reportedly stole $300 in cash out of another man's hand at the rest stop on Route 128 north near Exit 19.

The larceny occurred around 7 p.m. yesterday outside the rest stop's bathrooms, according to the statement the alleged victim gave police. Police said the victim had the cash in hand and may have been meeting with the suspect when the cash was taken from him.

Some original reports indicated that the incident was a robbery, but a police investigation found that no threats had been made and only a theft occurred.

Police said they do have a lead on the identity of the suspect and the vehicle he was driving. He is being described as a white man with light hair.
