PEABODY — Two McCarthys received honors Thursday evening from Making a Difference in Peabody.
Though unrelated, Jerry McCarthy of Northeast Arc and Art McCarthy of the McCarthy Family Foundation each earned the nonprofit's community service award.
Making a Difference Founder and Executive Director Scott Frasca handed the honorees their awards during the charity's annual ceremony at Toscana's Restaurant. About 50 people attended the hors d'oeuvres and cocktail reception for the pair.
Art McCarthy was singled out for his contributions to charitable organizations throughout the city. Jerry McCarthy is being recognized for his role in shepherding the Northeast Arc, the former Association for Retarded Citizens.
The 8-year-old charity also celebrated another year of helping people in the community.
Frasca said Making a Difference helped provide Thanksgiving meals to 800 people, gave temporary hotel stays and food to flood victims, purchased mattresses for families who had been homeless, and helped pay utility bills.
"This year has been a busy year with that," Frasca said before the event.
