Armed man dead after Peabody standoff

Police: Neighbors evacuated after man fired on woman and her daughters

Carol Leonard, who has lived next door to 10 Monson Drive for eight years, was one of the neighbors evacuated.

“We were told to leave and we went and stayed with my daughter,” she said. They returned to her home around 11 p.m. after a neighbor called them saying the scene was starting to clear.

“It is a quiet neighborhood,” she said, noting she never thought anything like this would happen. She said she doesn’t know the relation of the “unwanted person” to the family.

Several other neighbors declined comment yesterday.

Around 5 p.m. yesterday, there were multiple cars parked in the driveway of 10 Monson Drive. Two women in the driveway declined comment.

Peabody police along with state police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office are investigating the matter.
