Work to finish trail will mean closures

---- — DANVERS — Installation of the finished stone dust surface of the Danvers Rail Trail will be installed starting today.

The work will begin near the SwampWalk and the Wenham line and move south toward the Peabody line over the next two weeks, said Senior Planner Kate Day in an email.

Portions of the trail will be closed for safety reasons during construction, Day said. Large trucks will be backing down the trail, and heavy equipment will be used to spread the stone dust. The work should take about two weeks.

“The Danvers Rail Trail Advisory Committee appreciates that this may pose a temporary inconvenience to trail users, but safety is paramount during this last phase,” Day wrote.

A $50,000 state Department of Conservation and Recreation grant awarded to Wenham and Danvers made the work possible. The money comes by way of the Federal Highway Administration through the Recreational Trails Program.
