---- — SALEM — A two-week investigation culminated yesterday afternoon in the arrest of Christopher Bettencourt, 44, of 335 Lafayette St., on 14 separate drug charges, including possession with intent to distribute heroin, suboxone, oxycodone, focalin amphetamines, gabapentin and marijuana. In each case, Bettencourt is also charged with possession with intent to distribute these drugs in a school zone.

It wasn’t Bettencourt’s first drug arrest, police said. Officers were responding to complaints from area residents when they began their investigation and the surveillance of the suspect’s apartment, according to Lt. Mary Butler. Subsequently they obtained a search warrant for the apartment.

The arrest came without incident. Also found in Bettencourt’s possession, according to the log, were “packaging materials and equipment used to facilitate the illegal distribution of narcotics.”

Leading the investigation was detective Daniel Tucker, aided by Lt. Stephen Bona, Sgts. James Page and Kristian Hanson, and detectives Brian St. Pierre, Charlene Sano, Thomas Brennan and Eric Connolly.
