Birthday smoothie video causes police visit in Salem

SALEM — A Daniels Street mom decided to give her 5-year-old a memorable birthday, according to a police report on Thursday at 6:49 p.m. As part of the festivities she made her boy a special smoothie, laced with ginger ale. She “garnished the drink with a strawberry ... (and) told her son it was a cocktail to celebrate his birth.”

So others could share the fun, she recorded this on video and it put it on Facebook where it was seen by roughly 500 Facebook friends.

Police arrived after hearing from an anonymous “friend” that the well-being of a child was endangered as the mother “was letting her 5-year-old son drink alcohol.” Officers, however, observed the 5-year-old and a 2-year-old and found no evidence of that. They advised mom to be watchful in the future regarding what she puts on Facebook.
