Search is on for interim administrator in Wenham

WENHAM — Twenty-six people have applied for the interim town manager job in Wenham.

Selectmen will sort through the applicant pool over the next month and hope to make a hire by April, Chairwoman Molly Martins said this week.

Jeff Chelgren, Wenham's town administrator since 2002, was recently offered the town administrator job in Marblehead. His last day in Wenham will be April 13.

Selectmen have decided to hire an interim administrator to work for three to five months, steering the town through Town Meeting, before launching a full search for Chelgren's replacement.

Selectmen will meet Monday at 7:30 a.m. to discuss the candidate pool for the interim position, looking for three to five candidates to interview. The goal, Martins said, is to select someone and negotiate a contract by mid-March.

Chelgren is leaving his post to replace Tony Sasso, Marblehead's town administrator since 1994.
