Bocce tourney a smashing success

BEVERLY — The fourth annual Ward 3 Bocce Tournament had its most successful year yet, with 25 participants raising more than $250 for Beverly Bootstraps and the Cove Playground Foundation.

Seven teams met Saturday for the double elimination tournament as part of Beverly Homecoming. The tournament was at Sam Carratu Park on Park Street, where the city's public bocce court is located.

City Councilor Jim Latter founded the event along with Scott Ofiesh of Gloria Food Stores, who provided refreshments. Latter said he was thrilled about the turnout and the overall community atmosphere at the event, and he thanked Tim Averill, Ofiesh, Charlie Fountain, Brett Schetzsle and Jerry Parisella for their help organizing the tournament.
