Salem police: Man arrested for dancing on guardrail

SALEM — Police say a Lynn man was arrested after an officer saw him apparently dancing atop a guardrail on Highland Avenue about 2:30 yesterday morning.

Matthew Patrick Mills, 24, of 63 Lynnway, was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct.

An officer saw “a party who appeared to be dancing on the guard rail” that separates the inbound and outbound lanes of traffic in the area of 205 Highland Ave., according to the incident log.

“As I was unable to stop as I passed by the party, I turned around and made my way back,” the officer wrote. “I now observed the party to be rolling on the ground by the breakdown lane.”

When the officer approached, Mills became “very agitated,” police wrote. “Matthew was yelling and throwing his arms in the air. Matthew refused to calm down. Matthew then began to approach this officer in a manner that appeared as if he was going to attempt to assault this officer.”

Mills was taken into custody without further incident.
