A clerk at the Tedeschi at 115 Main St. reported at 1:36 a.m. that he or she had been assaulted by somebody. Police were unable to locate the suspect.
Police received a 4:04 p.m. report that a backpack containing an iPhone, a charger and $500 in cash had been stolen from a locker at the YMCA on Lynnfield Street.
Police and the Fire Department responded to Russell Street shortly before 5 p.m. after a report that a vehicle had struck a tree. When firefighters arrived they put out a small fire beneath the engine compartment with a dry chemical extinguisher and extricated the vehicle’s sole occupant, a firefighter said. That person was transported to Mass. General Hospital with a compound fracture to the lower right leg.
Police and the Fire Department responded to a 5:08 p.m. report of a possible structure fire at 37 Gallows Hill Road and determined the fire was actually in an outside fire pit.
Police responded to a 5:31 p.m. report of a break-in in progress at 19 Rainbow Terrace and forced entry into the residence with the help of the Fire Department. A K9 unit swept each room of the house and found the suspect — identified as Michael Robert Douglas, 27, homeless — hiding under clothes in a closet, said Lt. Scott Englehardt. Douglas was arrested on charges of breaking and entering in the daytime with intent to commit a felony and malicious destruction of property over $250. He was also wanted on a warrant out of Lynn, according to the incident log.
A 5:42 p.m. report of a shoplifter at the Home Depot on Trader’s Way resulted in the arrest of Don Daniel Mattos Jr., 22, of 12 First St., Salem, on a charge of shoplifting over $100.
Police received a 6:28 p.m. report that three potted plants and three solar lights had been stolen from a side yard at 10 Brittania Circle.
