---- — PEABODY — Police say a Blackstone Street man was confronted by a crowbar-wielding burglar with a bandanna on his face when he walked into an ongoing break-in at his residence yesterday morning.

Despite an extensive search that involved a K9 unit from Salem, officers were unable to locate the suspect, who was described as being white, about 6 feet tall and wearing a black sweatshirt and ball cap, according to the incident log. He also had a “bandanna or white mask” over his face.

Police first received word of the incident at 10:56 a.m., when the Blackstone Street resident reported that he had walked into his residence and discovered the suspect, who was holding a crowbar that could have been stolen from the same location.

After a brief confrontation, the suspect fled out the back door toward Russell Street. Police received a report that somebody matching his description had been seen in that area a short while later, but officers were unable to locate him.

The man said the suspect might have left a bag behind at the scene, according to the log.

Police wrote that an officer was planning to review security footage of the incident.
