Peabody officer injured in arrest

PEABODY — One police officer went briefly to the hospital and a suspect was treated for injuries — police say he hurt his hand hitting two of their officers — after an arrest on Saturday night.

William Connatser, 31, of 24 Herrick Road, Peabody, was arrested on charges including two counts of domestic assault and battery, two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and witness intimidation.

It was the alleged domestic assault on Connatser's girlfriend that brought police out to her Route 1, Mobile Estates address. Seeing them, police said, the suspect ran and had to be pursued.

After a foot chase, Connatser is accused of resisting the efforts of police to take him into custody, lashing out at two of them and injuring his own hand in the process.

He was eventually arrested by Officer Matthew Mason.

One of the police officers was taken to the hospital by Atlantic Ambulance. He was quickly released and returned to work. Connatser's hand was also examined.

Police note that no serious injuries appear to have resulted from the incident.
