---- — MARBLEHEAD — A Marblehead man was injured during a rollover crash on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Hopkinton on Thursday afternoon, police say.

Nicholas Casey, 53, was driving westbound on the highway in his 2001 Jeep Cherokee shortly before 3 p.m. when the accident occurred, according to a state police press release. It was unclear what caused the crash but Casey’s vehicle was the only one involved. Police fielded 911 calls saying the vehicle had rolled over multiple times.

Officers found the vehicle on its passenger side in the far left lane and determined that Casey had sustained “incapacitating” but non-fatal injuries, as had his passenger, who was identified as Kimberly O’Connor, 41, of Geneva, Ill. Both were transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center. Police said they appeared to have been wearing seat belts.

The crash is under investigation and police said charges haven’t been ruled out.

Several lanes of the highway were shut down as medical assistance was rendered and the state Department of Transportation cleaned up the scene. Police said it took less than an hour to completely clean up the crash but that traffic had already backed up close to 5 miles by that point.

A hospital spokesman said no one by the name of Nicholas Casey was listed as a patient last night.
