Recycle electronics, plastic foam May 4

The Salem News

---- — BEVERLY — Beverly will have its annual Electronics and Styrofoam Collection on Saturday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to noon at the rear of Beverly High School.

Residents of any community are welcome to participate.

The collection will benefit the Beverly High School football program and the Beverly Solid Waste Management Committee Education Fund.

Once again, plastic foam will be accepted for free. Although it is not accepted by most curbside recycling programs, plastic foam can and should be recycled. When incinerated, it produces a variety of hazardous gases and should not be discarded with trash.

ReFoamIt Corp. of Framingham will be on-site to assist with the plastic foam collection.

There will be a nominal fee for televisions ($15, or $20 if over 27 inches), Freon-containing appliances ($5), and computer monitors and laptops ($3).

There is no fee for computer towers, drives, keyboards, printers, fax machines, VCRs, CDs, cellphones, radios, telephone answering machines, microwave ovens, vacuums and any small appliances.

Hazardous waste, gasoline-powered items and batteries will not be accepted at this event.

Vehicles should enter at the Sohier Road entrance and proceed to the rear of the high school. Members of the football team will be present to help unload cars.
