Seriously injured man discovered at Willowdale Estate in Topsfield

TOPSFIELD — Topsfield and state police are investigating a report of a seriously injured man who was discovered at Willowdale Estate yesterday morning, police Chief Evan Haglund said.

Police received the report at 7:45 a.m., said Haglund, who referred all questions to the Essex County District Attorney’s office, which is investigating along with state and Topsfield police.

“I can confirm that detectives assigned to our office are working with Topsfield police on a case in which a man was seriously injured,” said Carrie Kimball Monahan, a spokeswoman for the Essex District Attorney’s office. The victim, who was not identified, was taken to Beverly Hospital and later to another medical facility for treatment, she said.

Willowdale Estate, at 24 Asbury St., is located inside Bradley Palmer State Park. The historic 1901 mansion is a venue for weddings, corporate events and private parties, and it opened in 2007 after extensive renovations.

A person who identified himself as “state police” answered the phone at the estate yesterday, but provided no information before hanging up.
