Police: Home ransacked while girls inside

SALEM -- Police say somebody apparently ransacked a woman’s residence on Bryant Street on Saturday afternoon while her two daughters were at home.

The incident occurred shortly before 1 p.m., according to the incident log. The woman told an officer she’d been out of at the time of the incident, but that her daughters had been home -- one was taking a 15-minute shower, the other sleeping on a couch.

When the girl got out of the shower, she discovered the residence had been “ransacked,” police wrote.

“I walked through the house,” wrote the officer. “There were clothes and items strewn about ... the drawers were opened and rummaged through.”

Police say neither of the girls saw or heard anything, and that neither of the home’s doors were locked at the time.

It was unclear if anything was taken during the incident. The officer noted that an Apple computer, a Nook and a Coach bag had all been left untouched, as were the televisions.

Police found a broken pair of eyeglasses on the floor of the home, and planned to fingerprint them.

The investigation is ongoing.
