Young women who are residents of Salem, graduating from high school and continuing on to college, are welcome to apply for the Anonymous Scholarship, which is awarded based upon a combination of financial need and academic performance. The award can be renewed annually if the student maintains a primary residence in Salem during her four-year pursuit of an undergraduate degree. The application deadline is Thursday, May 1. To request an application form, send the name and mailing address of the interested applicant to beckford3@msn.com, with “Anonymous Scholarship Application Form” in the subject line of the email. Those interested may also write to the Anonymous Scholarship Fund, Scholarship Committee, 3 Beckford St., Salem, MA 01970.

The community is invited to a special book group led by author Randy Susan Meyers to discuss her book “The Murderer’s Daughters” on Tuesday, May 13, at 7 p.m. at Woodbridge, 240 Lynnfield St., Peabody. Coffee and dessert will be served. The group is free and open to all. The program is sponsored by the Lappin Foundation, the Jewish Journal and Cohen Hillel Academy. Emotions Anonymous, a 12-step organization similar to Alcoholics Anonymous, will meet weekly for the purpose of working toward recovery from emotional difficulties. Members are from many walks of life and are of diverse ages, economic statuses, and social and educational backgrounds. The only requirement for membership is a desire to become well emotionally. Meetings are held at Beverly Hospital on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. For more information, call Murray at 978-535-7676.

The Friendly Garden Club of Beverly will award a scholarship to high school seniors from Beverly who are pursuing a college career in environmental science, horticulture, botany, floral design, landscape design, conservation or related fields for the 2014-2015 academic year.
