Following a traffic stop at 6:51 p.m. on Margin Street, William Josselin Jr., 33, of 7 Harris St., Beverly, was arrested on charges of illegal possession of heroin, illegal possession of methadone and violation of the city knife ordinance.

A woman called police at 8:01 p.m. to report she had a “verbal dispute” with her fiance over money. The woman said he kicked her out of his house, took back her engagement ring and told her to go to the Lifebridge shelter for the night. Police drove her to the shelter and advised her of her legal lights in domestic incidents.

A woman reported at 8:36 p.m. that she had been assaulted by a man at Northend Avenue. Police responded to the scene and began a search for the suspect, who may have been headed to Beverly.

Police went to J&W Marine, 56 Bridge St., at 11:09 p.m. on an alarm. After discovering the front door smashed in, a K-9 officer searched the building and grounds with a dog. The owner arrived later and told police it appeared nothing was missing.

Wednesday

Two men were arrested following an apparent drag-racing incident on Highland Avenue at 1:13 a.m. Police observed two cars take off at a high rate of speed after being stopped at a traffic light on Highland Avenue by Olde Village Drive. Several cruisers were involved in the pursuit. Justin Borden, 25, of 3 Clark Ave., Salem, was arrested on charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle, drag racing, speeding and failure to stop for police. Anthony Occhipinti, 24, of 29 Barnes Road, Salem, was arrested on the same charges. In a separate but related incident, a woman who tried to pick up Borden’s car from a tow yard was arrested on two outstanding warrants.

Brendan Desmond, 28, of 21 Brierwood St., Gloucester, was arrested by Salem State University police at 2:35 a.m. on Harrison Road on a charge of drunken driving.
