SALEM — The Salem Education Foundation marks its 20th anniversary this weekend with two big events as part of its second annual Hats Off To Education celebration.
The annual auction fundraiser will be held Friday from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at Hawthorne Hotel. The hat-themed party features a casino night, a live auction, a $2,500 reverse raffle and a “wall of wine,” all to benefit Salem students and teachers.
Tickets are $50 — two for $85 — and can be purchased online at www.salemeducationfoundation.org.
Saturday is Education Day, with dozens of free, family events and activities from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at sites all over the downtown.
There will be a Hogwarts Hustle fun run for children and zumba dancing on Salem Common; a bilingual scavenger hunt and finance classes for teens and adults in Old Town Hall; a mixology class for adults at Adriatic restaurant; a lesson in beekeeping by City Councilor Beth Gerard and many more activities.
There will be performances throughout the day by the Salem High Jazz Band, a Destination Imagination team, school-age Latin and African dancers, and a theater group.
Participants can register and pick up a schedule of events Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Old Town Hall.
