Teen nabbed after chase by hospital security, police

SALEM — A teenager was arrested Tuesday night in a backyard off Broad Street after a chase involving hospital security and Salem police.

A security officer at Salem Hospital interrupted a male wearing a black hoodie and red sneakers at 10:47 p.m. trying to break into a car behind Highland Hall on Highland Avenue, according to police.

Hospital security chased the suspect but lost him near Jackson and Broad streets. Several police cruisers joined the search.

Patrolman Gilbert Priddy spotted a young man fitting that description near Broad Street. Hospital security came to the scene to identify him.

The 16-year-old Salem juvenile was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, malicious destruction of property worth more than $250, breaking and entering into a motor vehicle in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony, possession of burglary tools and larceny of property worth more than $250.
