SALEM — A Salem teen accused of groping a girl who had fallen asleep while watching a movie was cleared of indecent assault and battery charges by a Salem District Court jury this week.

Christian Skyler Clemons, 18, of 177 North St., had been arrested last June after a teenage girl told police that she and two other girls were watching a movie with Clemons when they all fell asleep. She told police she woke up around 3 a.m. and found Clemons fondling her.

But during a trial on Tuesday, jurors took less than 15 minutes to find Clemons not guilty of the one count of indecent assault and battery still pending when they began their deliberations.

A judge had already dismissed one count, then granted a motion for a required finding of not guilty on a second count after the evidence was presented.

salem man admits fraud

SALEM — Salem resident Alfred Hill made a pretty good living over the last year and a half, netting almost $86,000. There was just one problem: Only some of the money came from his job; the rest came from fraudulent state unemployment claims.

Drinking cows crash party

BOXFORD — Six cows crashed a house party on Main Street and wound up drinking the beer left behind on a picnic table when the partygoers fled.
Police Lt. James Riter said he got a call about 9 p.m. Sunday for cows in the road on Main Street near Foster Street close to the town line with North Andover.

New faces elected to H-W school board

HAMILTON — Barbara Kent Lawrence, Sheila MacDonald and William "Bill" Wilson topped the ticket for Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee last night.
The school board race was the only contested office on Hamilton's ballot, which brought 655 residents to the polls yesterday. Wenham residents cast votes for School Committee on May 5, the results of which were sealed until Hamilton's polls closed at 8 last night.
