Police received reports at about 9:45 p.m. of a “sweater” or “manhole” on fire at Clifton Avenue and Brook Road. The Fire Department found a shirt on fire and extinguished it.
A house and car on Goldthwaite Road were egged overnight, according to an 8 a.m. report. “Caller said there have also been several kids smoking dope in the area who she has asked to leave and go smoke elsewhere,” wrote police.
A Smith Street store operator reported at 11:27 a.m. that a man named “Bruce” had tried to steal money from a cancer support donation jar.
Two mailboxes were knocked over at Perkins and Lowell streets, according to a 3:46 p.m. report.
Police responded to a 7:50 p.m. report of an unknown disturbance on Winnegance Avenue, where they talked to a man who denied making any 911 calls. “He stated it may have been his cousin and girlfriend,” wrote police. “On the playback, she was requesting an ambulance because she did not feel good because she had just smoked. There was a male party telling her that she does not need an ambulance and that she is fine.” Police were unable to locate either of the people.
Lourdes Gonzalez, 35, of 99 Webb St., Salem, was arrested on charges of drunken driving and a marked lanes violation at 1:59 a.m. on County Street.
Police responded to a 4:37 a.m. report of an accident at 102 Lynn St. and arrested Jonathan Delosantos, 20, of 5 Oakwood Ave., Lynn, on a charge of drunken driving. No injuries were reported.
A woman in a dark peacoat was walking in a travel lane of Route 1 with her eyes closed, according to reports at just before 9 a.m. Police were unable to locate her.
A 9:36 a.m. report of shoplifting at Sears at the Northshore Mall resulted in the arrests of Mirna Portillo, 33, of 29 Auburn Ave. Apt. 2, Somerville, and Rosa Portillo, 23, of the same address, each on charges of shoplifting and receiving stolen property under $250.
A white man in his early 20s got out of a dark-colored car and chased two youths through the area of Tremont and Mason streets, according to a 7:55 p.m. report. Police advised the youths, who said they didn’t recognize the man, to contact them if they saw him again.
An “unruly group” was reported to be in the roadway at Porter and Cherry streets, according to an 11:49 p.m. report, but police were unable to locate anybody suspicious.
A 1:56 a.m. report of “loud banging and yelling” brought police to 116 Lafayette St., where they arrested Miguel Hernandez, 27, of the same address, on a charge of disturbing the peace.
Police responded to a 2:48 a.m. report of someone singing at 41 Mason St., but found nobody doing so upon arrival.
A man at 152 Lafayette St. reported finding a jewelry box on his front porch at 1:20 p.m.
A man reported at 2:54 p.m. that his jacket — and the iPhone and $160 in cash in it — had been stolen while he ate lunch at the Salem Diner.
Police received a 3:50 p.m. report that a cellphone and a silver ring were stolen from a woman’s Washington Street residence while she was away.
Police arrested Kumar Gurung, 50, of 18 Sohier Road, Beverly, on a charge of drunken driving after a motor vehicle accident on Route 128 northbound at about 8 p.m. No injuries were reported.
A blue tarp was reported to be in the roadway on Grapevine Road at 1:28 p.m., but police later called the report “unfounded.”
