Armed robber chased in Peabody

PEABODY — Peabody, Danvers and state police combined in the search for an armed robber suspected in a holdup at Town Variety on Central Street in Peabody last night.

The call came to police shortly before 9 p.m., and the bandit was described as a white male, tall, 6-foot-1 and thin, wearing a black hat and carrying a small black gun.

He was chased by Peabody police, who soon recruited the Danvers K-9 unit and the State Police Air Wing, which was using thermal imaging to help find him.

At one point, an officer called over the scanner that the man had been chased out of a van and into a building on Endicott Street. It’s unclear what the van driver’s involvement might be.

According to police, no one appeared to have been physically injured during the robbery.
