MARBLEHEAD — A local man was arrested Saturday night after he allegedly crashed his Audi into a utility pole on Orne Street and then fled the scene.

James Hampton Wade, 22, of 33 Birch St., Marblehead, was taken into custody on charges of drunken driving, second offense; driving under the influence of drugs, second offense; operating a motor vehicle to endanger; leaving the scene of property damage; and resisting arrest.

Police received a 9:12 p.m. report of the accident, which split part of the pole and caused the vehicle’s air bag to deploy.

According to the log, a person exited the vehicle after the accident and “stuck the air bag back in.”

The car was eventually found at 90 Beacon St. An officer noted in the log that there was a trail of what appeared to be antifreeze leading “from the spot of the accident to where the vehicle was located.”

Officers checked the area of the crash but located no further damage.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.
