Man hospitalized after stabbing

PEABODY — Police are seeking a Maine man on a charge of attempted murder after an early morning stabbing yesterday at Homewood Suites.

A clerk at the Route 1 hotel called police at 1:08 a.m. to report that a guest had come to the lobby saying he’d been stabbed, according to the police log. The victim, a 47-year-old man, was subsequently transported to Massachusetts General Hospital by ambulance with a knife wound to his upper chest, Sgt. Robert Waugh said.

Police were seeking a warrant yesterday in connection to the incident for Peter Thomas Colburn, 45, of 41 Longhall Drive, Berwick, on charges of attempted murder, domestic assault and battery, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

An officer who arrived on the scene shortly after the emergency call reported seeing a white vehicle with Maine license plates leaving the area, Waugh said. A subsequent police search failed to yield any suspects.

The investigation is ongoing.
