---- — SALEM — A Danvers man was arrested Thursday night after he allegedly put a knife to the throat of a man who answered the door at a Lafayette Street apartment.

Matthew Silva, 36, of 65 Longbow Road, was arrested in connection to the incident on charges of assault and battery by dangerous weapon and assault by dangerous weapon.

Lt. Scott Englehardt said Silva banged on the door of an apartment at 214 Lafayette St. at about 11 p.m., apparently looking for a girl named “Kelly.” When the man who answered the door said he had no idea who she was, Silva allegedly put a knife to his throat, nicking him with the blade in the process.

The man’s friend saw what was happening and beat Silva with a broomstick from behind to get him to back off, but Silva began swinging the knife at him, said Englehardt.

Six officers responded to the scene and took Silva into custody without incident.

The man refused medical treatment.

Englehardt said the assault and battery by dangerous weapon charge stemmed from Silva putting the knife to the man’s throat; the other charge stemmed from him swinging the knife at the second man.
