Mother returns with missing 4-year-old

SALEM — Everyone appears to be back where they belong after a mom put police on alert after disappearing with her 4-year-old daughter while on a scheduled visit Sunday.

Hui Chen Chang, 32, had gone to see her daughter at the home of the father’s mother in Salem. This arrangement was necessary because the father, Maine resident Andrew Nicholson, has a stay-away order against Chang, according to the Salem police.

At some point, police were alerted that Chang and the child were missing. The state police at Logan Airport were notified.

Lt. Frank Clark of the South Portland, Maine, police subsequently explained that the child appeared with both mom and dad at their scheduled custody hearing later in the week.
