Probe leads to heroin distribution charges

SALEM — Police arrested a local man on heroin distribution charges yesterday after a month-long investigation.

William Rosa, 33, of 414 Essex St., Salem, was arrested on charges of possession of a class A substance with intent to distribute and possession with intent to distribute within 300 feet of the Collins Middle School and 100 feet of Splain Park, said Detective Dennis Gaudet.

Gaudet said police initiated the investigation after numerous complaints of hand-to-hand drug deals on May Street, around the corner from Rosa’s residence.

“We identified that the drugs were coming from that house,” said Gaudet.

A search warrant was served at that location yesterday. Along with heroin, police seized more than $5,000 in cash, a Ford Explorer and two cellphones, said Gaudet.
